ASTRAKHAN is based on the original indian ink artwork drawn from vintage persian lamb fur, commonly called Astrakhan.

Meticulously rendering the structure of the original fur, ‘Astrakhan’ is a mesmerising pattern with a large and almost undetectable repeat. The overall effect of optical illusion is enhanced through the combination of the superior quality of the fabric and print. The soft texture of this contract grade cotton velvet creates an impression of depth and supports the illusion of fur, turning the drawing back into something tactile and mysteriously organic in appearance.
Astrakhan forms part of my signature Fur Drawing collections, where I create hybrid aesthetics between figurative and textural. The structure of these organic textures invoke something mysterious, whilst translating cultural associations of opulence and luxury.
